Major Project update!

Hello everyone,

Sorry I haven’t posted for quite a while now. I’ve been so busy with the degree and family that I just haven’t had the time to post.

I have been on quite a journey. When I started my major project entitled “What is a Family anyway?” I had full intentions of creating a powerfully creative collection of social documentary images. But as the project progressed it became clear that the stronger images were those showing the connections between parents and their children and the portrait images of those children. I am still in the process of writing my observations and conclusions but in the meantime I have uploaded a gallery of images onto my Facebook page so that you may see a selection of these images and have included the link in this post.

I have had a truly wonderful time meeting and photographing all the families who kindly volunteered and would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for taking part.

FAMILIES NEEDED FOR PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT – PORTRAIT FOR FREE.

Hello, my name is Melissa Harper and I am a freelance photographer and BA Honours student currently working on a project with a working title of  ‘What is a family anyway?’  Which is an investigation into the notion or concept of a family in the UK today.

Families are valuable and precious. But what constitutes a family in a modern Britain and what is its purpose? The family unit is more diverse than ever before. Why not celebrate this by taking part in an exciting new photographic project dedicated to the family?

I need families to volunteer for this photographic project.  Participants should live in the Bradford area and will receive a FREE copy of their favourite image as a thank you.

Shooting is due to begin February 2012 and the final Images are scheduled for exhibition in June 2012.

The Square Chapel Project Winter 2010

Below is a selection of images from a personal project put together with the co-operation of the staff and volunteers at the Square Chapel, Halifax.  The project took 3 months to complete and I have also produced a book to complement this work.

This project has been a fantastic journey for me and I’ve  had tremendous pleasure in taking and selecting the images for this book.

I would like to thank all the performers’, bands, actors and theatre companies for their co-operation and assistance.  I would like to give special thanks to the staff and volunteers and The Square Chapel, Halifax without whose support none of this would have been possible, namely Lucy Burnett and John Carter for their help and encouragement, Kate Hornby for contacting all the agencies to grant me the access I needed, Rebekah Fozard for her help with licences and finally duty managers Alice and Linda for their additional support.
